Miamian Rhapsody
Exhibited at Center for Architecture and Design (AIA Philadelphia)
Miami has created its own architectural characteristics while reflecting on the changes in design trends though the times including Art Deco, Modernism, Brutalism, and Postmodernism. This was possible due to its distinguishing cultural aspects mainly influenced by geographical location and climate.
Miami Design District pursues a new design hub for fashion, art, design, and culture with luxurious buildings. However, those “luxurious buildings” don’t really have characteristic of Miami Architecture rather they have fancy facade which meets high-end commercial needs or architects’ own experimental form without contextual consideration. The proposed new building collaged with Miami’s several elements including architecture, landscape, and ferry.
Concept Collage
The building is located by the new plaza and they have a symbiotic relationship. The building itself works like a big canopy to the plaza so it provides a huge shaded area. The lower part of the building that resembles the cruise ship hull draws people to the public programs of the building and they can be activated as the extension of the plaza.

The layout of the upper floor plan consists of residential units distributed in the perimeter. Architectural elements, including expanded corridors, atriums, bridge, and interior stairs enable social interactions of residents. The shape of porous tubes was formed by analyzing Miami solar path and this helps to enhance the vitality and health of the building residents by providing sunlight, natural ventilation, and communal programs. In other words, this building is a conglomeration of several Miami inspired components. Therefore, if this building was a form of music, it would be called "Miamian Rhapsody".
