Site Plan

The colorful louvers above comprise 1,450 square meters of color-laminated solar modules that provide a comfortable microclimate in the park. Twenty-three tree-like vertical columns support the long-span beams and compression rings that allow the natural trees to grow up above the canopy uninterrupted. Visitors enjoy playing on the seesaws that are installed at the base of each column, perhaps blissfully unaware that their play is generating additional clean energy. Interpretive displays engage the more curious park-goer, illustrating the kinetic energy-harvesting dynamos and the battery energy storage that is integrated into the workings of each seesaw.

Construction Detail

"Trees and Seesaws" is a place for visitors to enjoy the landscape of the park, generate clean energy, and improve public health and happiness. The project reminds us that the ultimate goal of technical solutions for renewable energy generation is to achieve symbiosis with nature.
